Is there any medical history we should work around?
Your answer is a first guide to which insurers may fit, from our experience of placing cover. The insurer decides when you apply, and a BrokerFish adviser can check your own case first. Nothing you answer here is carried onto an application form: the insurer’s own health questions are answered afresh, on the form, when you apply.
Find your condition by name
No medical history to work around — show me all insurers I want cover for stable, managed conditions — hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, gout, asthma, an underactive thyroid or Crohn's disease Stable means controlled with routine medication and check-ups, not recent hospital treatment. Which insurers fit depends on which condition you have — Allianz Care may consider gout, asthma and an underactive thyroid; Optimum Global may consider hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and gout; HCI NIMBL may consider hypertension, gout, asthma, an underactive thyroid and Crohn's disease; HCI Protector 21 may consider hypertension, gout, asthma, an underactive thyroid and Crohn's disease; Expacare may consider hypertension, gout, asthma and an underactive thyroid; Global Health may consider high cholesterol, gout, asthma and an underactive thyroid. Global Health and HCI review medical history in a similar way, so we show whichever of the two is lower-priced for you. Type 2 diabetes you have had for more than 10 years is harder to place, and a BrokerFish adviser can check which insurers may still consider it. I have past medical history, but no chronic conditions — and I've been clear of it for 2 years Clear means you have not sought or received advice, treatment, therapy, a special diet, symptoms or medication in the two years before your intended start date, whether or not the condition was ever diagnosed. Expatriate Group's plans are built around exactly this, so that's who we'll show you. That can include serious past conditions — even cancer in full remission — with a doctor's report confirming the 2 clear years. If you are unsure, please reach out to us to ask advice. Past condition, now fully recovered — for example a repaired hernia, a removed appendix, a healed broken bone or an early skin cancer removed Which insurers fit depends on what it was — Allianz Care may consider a hernia repaired by surgery, a removed appendix, a healed broken bone and an early skin cancer removed; Expacare may consider a hernia repaired by surgery, a removed appendix, a healed broken bone and an early skin cancer removed; Global Health may consider a hernia repaired by surgery, a removed appendix, a healed broken bone and an early skin cancer removed; HCI NIMBL may consider a hernia repaired by surgery, a removed appendix, a healed broken bone and an early skin cancer removed; HCI Protector 21 may consider a hernia repaired by surgery, a removed appendix, a healed broken bone and an early skin cancer removed. Global Health and HCI review medical history in a similar way, so we show whichever of the two is lower-priced for you. If yours is a different past condition, choose “something else” and we'll advise. Something else — tell us about it and we'll advise Anything that doesn't fit the answers above. We'll review what you tell us and come back to you with advice.
Two parts of a quote request are optional: the medical-history question and the lifestyle answers. Your medical-history answer, and any condition you name from our list, are used to show you the insurers more likely to accept that history, in the order they are likely to, and they change no price. If you choose “Something else” and tell us about it in your own words, a BrokerFish adviser reads it to advise you, and it never goes to an insurer. Your lifestyle answers (height, weight, smoking, alcohol, exercise and days off sick) make your prices more exact: Expacare re-prices on them, and Optimum Global’s price uses your height and weight. Both are kept with your enquiry and nowhere else, and neither reaches an insurer before you apply. Nothing you answer here is carried onto an application form: the insurer’s own health questions are answered afresh, on the form, when you apply.
